Veggie Bot

We're at it again, making cute characters out of veggies. These charming little guys can be used as a center piece for the table or as individual salads. If they fall over and lose their heads - no worries - just eat them.

Makes 2 "Bots"

You'll need:

  • 1 medium-sized cucumber
  • 2 big carrots
  • 4 edible pod peas
  • 2 big cherry tomatoes
  • Cream cheese
  • Sandwich Sprouts
  • Toothpicks
  • Your favorite salad dressing
  • Some adult help

Equipment:

  • Vegetable peeler
  • Kitchen shears or scissors
  • A knife
  • A plate
  1. Peel the cucumber and cut 2 robot torsos, each about 2 1/2 inches long.
  2. Have dad or whoever's helping you cut the top off the carrot and then cut a 2 inch chunk. Split it in half and you have the robot's feet.
  3. Cut another 3 inch chunk of carrot, split it in half and you have two legs.
  4. Make 6 - 3/4 inch pieces and on 1 inch piece from the toothpicks.
  5. Use two of the short pieces to attach the feet to the narrow end of the leg. Insert short pieces into the top of each leg and lower the torso down onto the legs.
  6. Push a short piece of toothpick through each pea pod arm and attach to the cucumber "shoulders."
  7. Insert the longer piece of toothpick into the tomato and stick it on top for the head. A dot of cream cheese will keep the sprouts in place for hair.
  8. Serve your "bot" with your favorite dressing.
