Edamame Snack

The Japanese love edamame, which are soy beans in the pod. This snack can be eaten warm or cold. A great treat for Vegetarians, Vegans and Omnivores alike!

You'll need:

  • 1 bag of frozen edamame
  • 6 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • A little help from an adult or older sibling

Equipment:

  • A large pot
  • A slotted spoon
  • Oven mitts
  • A colander
  1. Put the water in the pot and add the salt. Bring the water to a boil on high heat.
  2. Open the bag of edamame and pour them into the boiling water.
  3. Let the water come to a boil again and cook for 1-2 minutes or the time listed in the directions on the package. Frozen edamame is pre-cooked, so it will only take a little bit to cook them.
  4. Test one or two pods to see if they're tender.
  5. Put the colander in the sink. If you need help, ask your older brother or sister to drain the edamame.
  6. Let them cool for a few minutes, so you don't burn youyr fingers, then break the pods open with your fingers or your teeth and eat the tender beans inside.
  7. If you let them cool thoroughly you can pack them in resealable bags and slip them into your lunch sack.
