Belle and Livvy's chihuahua, Consuelo, always hangs out in the kitchen when we're cooking. She's kind of our little clean up crew, licking up whatever we drop. She's learned to eat carrots and peas this way, though we have to be really carefully when we're working with chocolate because chocolate can make dogs really sick - especially really little ones like Consuelo.

But the thing Consuelo really waits for us to drop is cheese. She loves cheese! So we thought we would make her some of her own dog cookies filled with yummy cheese.

{Makes 3 dozen little dog biscuits }

You'll need:

  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine - softened
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • A little adult help 

Equipment:

  • A bone-shaped cookie cutter
  • A large bowl
  • A large spoon
  • A large cutting board
  • A cookie sheet   
  • A cooling rack
  • Hot pads

  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Mix the flour and cheese together.
  3. Add the butter or margarine.
  4. Add the milk a little at a time until the dough forms a ball. You may not need all the milk or you may need a little more.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured board for a few minutes.
  6. Roll the dough out about a 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut the dough into bone shapes and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake at 350 degree for 15 minutes.
  9. Let the dog cookies cool thoroughly before giving them to your pooch. Your doggy will really appreciate you!
