Last year we made chocolate chip cookies in a jar and they were
a big hit. This year Miss Marcia from Petite Chefs made us recipe
for a healthier version.
The rolled oats, dried cranberries and pecans came from the
bulk area of our local organic grocery store.
{Makes 1 gift jar (eventually 2 dozen cookies)}
You'll need:
3/4 cup of flour
3/4 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
7 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 cup of dark brown sugar
1 1/2 cups of roll oats - the thick kind
1/2 cup of shredded coconut
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/3 cup toasted chopped pecans
A quart mason jar with lid
A 5 inch circle of fabric
A rubber band
Ribbon or raffia
Instruction tag - see the print version of recipe
A little adult help
Equipment:
A funnel or a cake decorating bag with end cut off
A large spoon
Scissors
Make sure the mason jar is totally dry inside.
Pour the flour, baking soda, salt and white sugar into the
jar. Shake the jar a little to settle the dry ingredients down.
Next, put in half the oats. We used only half here because
we figured that if we ran out of space at the top of the jar
a few oats wouldn't matter.
Next pour in the brown sugar and pack in down in the jar
using a spoon.
Add the cranberries, pecans and coconut in layers. Press
down.
Finish off the top with the remaining oats and press down.
Put the lid on then cover it with the fabric circle, secure
with a rubber band.
Take a bit of ribbon or raffia and thread the instruction
tag onto it. Tie the ribbon around the top and there's your
pretty gift.
